The Community Star program is Councilmember Augie Tulba's way of shining a light on the people who make Waipahu and Ewa a better place to live. Each month, our office recognizes a constituent who has demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, or dedication to the community.
What Makes a Community Star?
A Community Star is someone who goes above and beyond for the people around them. They don't do it for recognition — but they deserve it anyway. We're looking for residents who:
Volunteer their time to serve neighbors, seniors, youth, or families
Lead community initiatives like cleanups, drives, or civic programs
Support cultural preservation or education in our community
Mentor young people or give back through coaching, tutoring, or guidance
Step up during times of hardship or crisis
Nominations are open to anyone in District 9. You can nominate a friend, a neighbor, a teacher, a coach, an organizer — or anyone whose work deserves to be recognized.
What Happens After You Nominate?
Our office reviews nominations on a monthly basis. Selected honorees are recognized by Councilmember Tulba and may be featured in our monthly newsletter and on our social media channels. Honorees are also welcomed to a City Council meeting for a formal recognition.
