Request for Restricted Parking Zones on Hoomahana Street
People living in the Haleākea area of ʻEwa by Gentry have asked the City to address ongoing parking problems on Hoomahana Street.
The neighborhood has seen an increase in vehicles from outside the area occupying available street parking, with some cars reportedly left for months at a time. The area also has vehicles associated with suspected chop shops, as well as employees of a nearby urgent care facility who use neighborhood parking because the facility does not provide employee parking.
To protect limited street parking for those who live in the area, the community is requesting that the City establish Restricted Parking Zones.
Our office has contacted the City Administration and the Department of Transportation Services and asked them to investigate the situation and provide an update on the Restricted Parking Zone program and the steps required to establish a zone on Hoomahana Street.
Illegal Dumping in Varona Village
Illegal dumping has been reported along the western end of Koahi Street, throughout Kihi Street, and sporadically along Renton Road near Varona Village in the ʻEwa Villages.
Large and small items, including Weber grills and refrigerators, have been left along the roadside, particularly on perimeter streets where there are no occupied homes.
The community is asking the City to remove the debris as soon as possible to prevent these areas from becoming ongoing dumping grounds. The request also calls for the City to assess vacant lots with abandoned homes and overgrown vegetation that may contribute to the problem.
Our office has contacted the City Administration and the Department of Facilities Maintenance and asked them to investigate and take appropriate action.
Request for Tree Maintenance Schedule on Keaunui Drive Near Holomua Elementary
A community member has asked the City to address overgrown trees along Keaunui Drive near Holomua Elementary School.
A nearby property owner on Keonekapu Place has contacted the City about trees that have grown over the property. The property owner is concerned that the trees could fall, particularly during strong winds. Large branches have broken from trees in the area during previous periods of high winds.
The community is asking the City to establish a regular tree-trimming schedule and provide ongoing maintenance to help reduce potential hazards.
Our office has contacted the City Administration and asked officials to investigate the issue and inspect the trees ahead of upcoming storms. We are currently awaiting a response.
Request for Tree Maintenance Services on Hoowalea Street
Community members have asked for tree maintenance along Hoowalea Street near Hoalauna Park, where several trees appear dead or dying and dead palm fronds need removal.
A tree near the intersection of Hoowalea Street and Hoomohalu Place has also begun to tip toward parked vehicles. The request includes establishing a regular tree-trimming schedule for the area and replanting Harpullia trees through Trees for Honolulu's Future to help revitalize the neighborhood and provide additional shade in this part of Ewa Beach.
Our office has contacted the City Administration, Gentry Homes, the Montecito and Tuscany Association of Apartment Owners, and Hawaii Landscape and Nursery and asked them to investigate and take appropriate action.
During a site visit, our office confirmed that Hawaii Landscape and Nursery serves as the landscaping contractor for the area, and our team is awaiting a response from the company's management.
