Geiger Road: Pushing for Better Pavement

Uneven and substandard pavement on Geiger Road is getting a closer look following an underground utility project near the Ferguson building and Fort Weaver Road.

Our District 9 Office has made multiple site visits and asked the City Administration to assess the pavement and provide an update on the project. Crews previously indicated that some areas may have temporary tar caps awaiting final repaving.

We will continue tracking the work and keeping residents informed as the project moves forward.

Ewa Canal: Working to Prevent Flooding

Recent storms and heavy rainfall have brought renewed attention to rising water levels and debris in the Ewa Canal near Parrish Drive.

Nearby residents have experienced flooding in their homes multiple times in recent years and are asking the City to clear the concrete channel and increase regular maintenance.

Our District 9 Office has been working with residents and City agencies on the issue. The City’s Facilities Maintenance Department has also responded during past storms and periods of severe weather. We will continue following up to help keep the channel clear and reduce the risk of future flooding.

West Loch Fairways: Tracking Brush Fires and Smoke

Recurring brush fires near the Betsy Bliss area and the Pearl Harbor bike path continue to affect residents in West Loch Fairways. Neighbors have reported flare-ups, heavy smoke drifting into homes, and difficulty identifying the source when emergency responders are called.

Our District 9 Office is forwarding resident reports and photos to the City Administration. Federal wildlife refuge personnel have also assisted with patrols where their jurisdiction allows.

To strengthen communication, our office is exploring a neighborhood watch effort that could help residents and law enforcement share information and report suspicious activity more quickly. Residents interested in participating or helping lead the effort are encouraged to contact our office at atulba@honolulu.gov.

Koana Street: Investigating a Long-Term Trailer

A portable structure described as a small house or “hut” has remained on a trailer parked on Koana Street near Laulani Community Park for approximately one year.

The trailer has no visible license plates, registration, or safety inspection and is chained to a pole while occupying the public roadway.

Our District 9 Office has referred the matter to the appropriate City agencies including HPD for investigation and enforcement.

Makule Road: Taking Action on Speeding

Residents have reported persistent speeding along Makule Road and Aikanaka Road, particularly on weekday mornings when motorists head toward Campbell High School. Speeding has also been reported between Makule Road and Pohakupuna Road.

The narrow road has no sidewalks, putting pedestrians, including seniors walking to nearby bus stops and stores and children traveling to school, close to vehicle traffic. A resident also noted that recent repaving has made the speeding problem more noticeable.

The resident asked the City to consider traffic-calming measures such as speed humps. Our District 9 Office has contacted the Department of Transportation Services and the Honolulu Police Department to investigate the situation and determine what steps can be taken to improve safety.
