Streetlight Outage on Keaunui Drive
A streetlight outage continues along Keaunui Drive between Iroquois Road and Makalea Street, creating a safety issue for students waiting in near-darkness at two nearby bus stops. Residents have reported the issue through the Honolulu 3-1-1 app.
Much of this roadway remains privately owned by Gentry Homes, which is awaiting City approval to transfer the road to City ownership. Our office contacted both the City Administration and Gentry Homes requesting updates and a repair timeline.
Gentry Homes reported that Electrical Contractors Hawaii recently received needed parts and scheduled crews to begin work on February 26. Control boxes may require rewiring, but if repairs proceed as planned, the streetlights could be restored by Friday.
Gentry also recently hired a new electrical contractor after the previous contractor closed unexpectedly. In December, the new contractor received a list of nearly 50 streetlights needing repair. About half have already been repaired, mostly in the Sonoma and Prescott areas, with a few in the Carriages neighborhood.
Our office will continue following up until the streetlights are fully restored.

Overgrowth Cleared Near Franciscan Vistas on Miula Street
Heavy brush and weeds on a vacant property on Miula Street in ʻEwa Villages has been an ongoing concern for neighbors, who worry the overgrowth could become a fire hazard. Franciscan Vistas Senior Housing Facility borders the vacant property along three sides. Management contacted our office several months ago regarding the increasing risk of brush fires.
The parcel, formerly owned by Haseko Hawaii Inc., was recently transferred to Gentry Homes. After our office notified Gentry of the conditions, the company arranged to clear the parcels and the case was reported closed.
However, after the property became overgrown again, our office contacted Gentry Homes on February 20. Cleanup was completed on Monday, March 2.

Reports of illegal activity near Karayan Street and Fort Weaver Road prompted outreach to City agencies.
Honolulu Police Department District 8 officers continue to monitor the area. Enforcement on private property requires owner authorization, and our office is coordinating with nearby businesses as needed.
On February 25, the Department of Facility Maintenance cleared debris from the cemetery area and found no active encampment. The Department of Community Services has been notified to provide outreach support if needed.
