Public service has long been one of his passions. Prior to joining the City Council, he worked in the administrations of Hawaiʻi County Mayor Billy Kenoi and Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui, leading youth outreach initiatives both on Hawaiʻi Island and statewide. He has supported and participated in countless events and fundraisers benefiting organizations such as the Children’s Miracle Network, DARE, Fisher House, Special Olympics Hawaiʻi, and Lt. Governor Tsutsui’s REACH program. He has also delivered keynote addresses on anti-bullying, dyslexia, mental health awareness, and suicide prevention. Councilmember Tulba and his wife, Kim, currently serve as Directors of the Miss American Scholar Hawaiʻi Pageant.

A proud 1986 graduate of Farrington High School, Councilmember Tulba’s professional background spans service, hospitality, health care, and public service. His early jobs included working as a newspaper boy, lei greeter, delivery driver, fast-food cashier, laundry and facilities worker, and mailroom supervisor at Kapiʻolani Medical Center—experiences that grounded his appreciation for working families.

For more than three decades, Councilmember Tulba has also been a central figure in Hawaiʻi’s entertainment scene. A celebrated stand-up comedian, he has performed across Hawaiʻi and the continental United States. His work has earned multiple honors, including Honolulu Magazine’s Best Comedy Show, two Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, and two Hawaiʻi Music Awards.

He has written, directed, and starred in seven stand-up comedy DVDs and three CDs, and has enjoyed a long and successful radio career. He hosted Mornings with Augie T on Decades 107.9 FM, a local talk show on Salem Radio, and the highly rated Augie Radio Show on Da Paʻina. He also co-hosted Hawaiʻi News Now’s Cheap Eats with Guy Hagi, reaching more than one million viewers weekly.
Councilmember Tulba’s television and film appearances include Hawaii Five-0, Magnum P.I., Baywatch, The Wayne Brady Show, Na Aliʻi of Comedy: The Movie, Jun Ken Po, Aloha Surf Hotel, A Midsummer Hawaiian Dream, and Kuleana. He also produced and directed six seasons of Augie TV, which aired on OC16, KFVE, and online platforms.

His impact on Hawaiʻi’s cultural and media landscape has been widely recognized. He has been named one of Pacific Business News’ 40 Under 40, Hawaiʻi’s Funniest Comic by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and MidWeek, Best Radio Personality by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, and one of Hawaiʻi’s Top 100 Influential Filipinos. In 2019, Thrillist named him one of America’s top undiscovered comedians.

Through his dual careers in public service and entertainment, Councilmember Augusto “Augie” Tulba continues to enrich Hawaiʻi’s civic, cultural, and community life.
